Innovation in Management Education: Studying International Business Management in Spain

Master in International Business Management in Spain has become one of the most popular degrees in recent years. Students from different countries in the world demonstrate their interest in the innovative educational approach that this degree is offers and unique employment opportunities that it can provide to the graduates. In this blog post, we provide some of the reasons why this degree has become so valuable and desired.

Business environment is becoming everyday more global and complex, making management today a lot more complicated than in the past. Businesses are no longer protected by borders or able to easily take advantage of information asymmetries around the world to earn abnormal returns. In this context, there is a need for more sophisticated management, for new ideas and for faster rates of innovation, and thus a need for leading business schools to invest in research in order to better understand these issues and come up with rigorous and relevant solutions and suggestions.

Traditional curriculum offered at many business schools and universities which only focuses on operational aspects of business, such as marketing, finance or strategy, cannot any longer add value to the new generation of students who are forced to compete in the extremely complicated and fast-changing world. In order to be relevant to the future professional practice, business school’s studies must incorporate a global dimension – a feature which would allow students to feel the true citizens of the world.

Unfortunately, even though globalization showed its first signs over 25 years ago, business schools have been slow to realize the need of starting to redesign their business programs in order to include global aspects of modern business management as well as global values that should be shared today by all modern companies if we want to foster sustainable development in the world.

Contemporary students, who have grown up with internet and whose digital competencies are usually at high level, often realize this educational disconnect as they are looking for a degree that would allow them to work easily in any country, to understand people of different cultures and to comprehend the complexities of the global world from the business management point of view.

That is why the appearance at some business schools of the degree Master in International Business Management has provided an alternative to the traditional business studies. This degree covers all the aspects of international business, starting from understanding of the global business environment to showing the strategies of taking your company global, and allows learning about peculiarities of conducting business in different regions of the world, such as Latin America, Africa, Australia, Europe, etc. At Global Business School in Barcelona, for example, students are given the option of choosing to study one of the global languages: Russian, Spanish or Chinese. English is a must nowadays but emerging markets are so big and powerful that learning the language spoken there would always be a plus if you want to work in a multinational company or do business directly in one of the emerging countries.

Why studying International Business Management in Spain? The answer is simple: business schools in Spain have traditionally been the first in Europe to apply innovation to their programs. When in the rest of Europe there were no business schools at all, Spain had already a couple of them which appeared in the 50s of the last century. And today, the best of business education can be found in Spanish business schools, such as our business school in Barcelona that promotes innovation and principles of any modern business – responsibility, solidarity, a global view with a positive local impact.
